Why colon hydrotherapy is good for you

February 4, 2013

My friend is a huge fan of colon hydrotherapy and recently I was given a voucher by her to use it for a session. I have never tried this cleansing method, but was curious to experience it. Although I must say I was given lots of enema when I was a child, as I always had constipation.

Colon hydrotherapy (or colonic irrigation) is used for a faster detoxification of the body. It aims to restore the colon to help it function with most efficiently it can. A healthy, strong, functioning colon is essential to good health. Together with the kidneys, lungs and skin, it is responsible for the body’s waste elimination. Due to improper diet and lifestyle, wrong food combinations and long term medications, the colon looses the ability to properly eliminate.

Colon hydrotherapy can help with:

  • skin disorders (eczema, psoriasis, acne)
  • allergic asthma
  • hay fever
  • migraine
  • digestive disorders (constipation, bloating)
  • chronic smoking
  • disorders of colon due to frequent travel
  • abdominal pain
  • poor digestion
  • sleep disorders
  • overweight
  • depression and chronic fatigue

Other benefits:

  • clears the colon of harmful toxins and helps in the restoration of proper pH balance
  • it can stimulate the immune system by facilitating enhanced passage of nutrients to the blood, if professionally done under doctors’ supervision
  • improves the prevention of toxic absorption via healthy mucosa, which is essential in maintaining a favorable environment for bacteria for digestion

The treatment – My colon hydrotherapy experience

I had my treatment in the Holistic Healing Medical Centre in Dubai. The clinic has a beautiful design, all shiny white with some orange. Even the white uniforms look great with orange touch on them here and there. This only made me a bit calmer. The staff was professional; after filling out a form, I was escorted to the Ayurvedic doctor’s room, where we had a chat about my health. They want to make sure that whoever comes there, is fit to do colon hydrotherapy.

Then I was ready to go, with the therapist. I had to change clothes, and then laid down on a massage bed. Soft music was on and the lady explained me what was going to happen in the next 30 minutes. The environment was all relaxed. There are two pipes being inserted into your anal. In the smaller one, water goes into your colon; in the wider one, discharge is coming out. They let water in until your colon fills up, then do some belly massage and the discharge is coming out through the pipe. They repeat the cycles for 30 minutes. It felt a bit uncomfortable here and there, but it was mainly due to some gas.

Make sure you have a very light diet the previous day (no gassy foods!), and don’t eat couple of hours before the treatment. Also, have lots of liquid and warm soups afterwards. Usually they tell you what to do. You might have some headache afterwards, which I did.

Colonics is recommended to be repeated for 4 weeks, once a week to ensure all the toxic waste is out from your system.

Have you tried colonics before? How was your experience? Would love to know in the comments below 😉
