Teach every child about food

February 10, 2013

This post is inspired by Jamie Oliver’s TED talk, which is 2 years old already, but still very relevant. He talks about how obesity is a big problem in the US, parts of Europe and Asia. Also how children are not being educated about whole foods, and can’t recognize a tomato? Really sad to see…

As I am walking with my 15 months baby daughter in the malls here in Dubai, and see toddlers at her age, munching on green-yellow candy stick and eating deep fried potato chips… makes me want to take these away from them. No wonder why this country has one of the highest rates of obesity and diabetes. This must be the result of lack of education.

There’s so much to do here! As a health coach I feel even more committed to spread the word of why eating wholesome food and exercise is so important; and educate families how they can incorporate healthy habits into their busy lives.

As Jamie says:

“I wish for everyone to help create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.”

Jamie is a true inspiration. We all need to spread the words about sugar and fat and how to cook!

Andrea, I wholeheartedly agree that childhood obesity is a problem in America and proper whole, sustainable foods type education needs to be taught in schools.

Sandra, you are right, and I think it’s a worldwide issue that needs to be addressed everywhere…
