Organic vegetable garden on the balcony in Dubai

October 30, 2010

Couple of months ago on my visit to Hungary, I’ve decided that when the weather gets slightly cooler in Dubai I will create my own little organic vegetable garden on our huge balcony. So I stocked up on some yellow paprika, tomato, baby tomato, lavender and sorrel seeds from Hungary.

The time has come now, and last Saturday (22.10.10.) I have planted the lavender and paprika seeds just to start off with and to see if anything happens…

Paprika at Week 0

Paprika - Week 0

Paprika is very rich in Vitamin C, has higher content than lemon juice by weight. Also high in antioxidants. As an antibacterial agent and stimulant, paprika can help normalize blood pressure, improve circulation, and increase the production of saliva and stomach acids to aid digestion.

Lavender, also known as Lavandula angustifolia, is one of the most widely used, versatile herbs known today. Lavender flowers have long been used to treat digestive problems, anxiety, depression, mental exhaustion, insomnia, scrapes and wounds, headaches, skin problems and women’s health problems. In addition to this, lavender can be used to treat exhaustion, heat exposure, fevers, aches and pains, over-exertion, jet lag, rashes, sprains, sunburn, sunstroke, bruises and burns. It can also be used as a disinfectant and insect repellant. Lavender is an antiseptic, natural antibiotic, sedative, detoxifier. It is a nice fragrance in the closet or using it in potpourri.

Let’s wait and see if my endavour will be successful. 🙂

Hey, good to se someone else trying as well. I just started planting my seeds a few weeks ago. It’s going great so far- lots of fun and exercise. I am out on the terrace early in the morning, watering, feeding and just admiring the tiny little seedlings. Never done it before so curious to see if any food will actually grow and make it to our table!

    Good luck!
