The Vegeterranean

August 7, 2010

The other day I’ve been browsing the bookshelves in one of the bookstores in Dubai. And for my surprise I’ve stumbled upon an Italian vegetarian cookbook. I had a look at it and decided to buy it.

The Vegeterranean by Malu Simoes and Alberto Musacchio

The Vegeterranean

Having gone through The Vegeterranean by Malu Simoes & Alberto Musacchio (haven’t prepared all of the dishes yet :)), I must say that this is one of the best cookbooks I put my hands on. What makes it unique, that it not only lists the recipes, but also gives background information on the authors lives and how they got into the restaurant business, which is very interesting and a good read. You will find the stories after each main part.

The compilation consist Italian dishes, but in vegetarian version, prepaired by Malu, wife of Alberto. We learn, that Malu Simoes and Alberto Musacchio are the proprietors of Country House Montali in Umbria, Italy. The reason why the Country House Montali has such a good culinary reputation is that, for a long time, it has produced an unusual gourmet vegetarian cuisine. Malu is a well known vegetarian chef, who shows us how to prepare versatile vegetarian dishes with simple methods.

At the beginning of the book there is a description of the ingredients and techniques used, before they go into the deatails of the prima colezione (breakfasts), antipasti (starters), primi (first course), secondi (second course) and dolci (desserts). There is even a separate section for the side dishes and different breads, as this is an important part of the Italian cuisine.

If you would like to learn how to make Italian food the vegetarian way, get The Vegeterranean here…

Enjoy cooking and buon appetito!
